Physician Coaching Testimonials
Here are what some of my physician clients have said about how their lives have changed from working with me and CPPR:

Academic Surgeon-in-Chief
“Facing the challenges of balancing my career in academic surgery with my overriding commitment to my growing family, I sought the counsel of Dr. Peter Moskowitz and CPPR. I probably never would have considered utilizing a career coach/counselor had I not had the good fortune to encounter one of Peter's former clients. Like many physicians, I considered it my ‘responsibility’ to work through these issues on my own. I was not even aware that assistance was available.

“From my interactions with Peter and CPPR, I learned the value of receiving input from an objective individual who has the training and expertise to help physicians manage our opportunities and challenges. Peter could not have been more understanding of my needs and accommodating to my very challenging schedule. My discussions with Peter helped me negotiate a decision to accept a position at a different university and to craft a plan which allowed me achieve a better balance between my professional and personal goals. Peter has lived the life of both an academic and private practice physician and is remarkably skilled at combining this life experience with his training as a coach to help clients.

“I have great personal and professional respect for Dr. Moskowitz and would most enthusiastically recommend his services to any physician seeking a better perspective on his / her life.”

Surgeon
“Peter helped me to understand why I chose medicine as a profession. By decreasing the negatives and increasing the positives, I have been able to continue practicing with much greater contentment and inner peace.

“Peter also has helped to enrich the other aspects of my life, such as my friendships, my physical well-being, and my spiritual activities. The net effect has been to make my life happier and more fulfilling.

“I have encouraged many of my troubled or burned out colleagues to seek coaching from Peter. Once you commit to improving your life, Peter can help you to begin the journey.”

Pediatrician

“Going to see Peter Moskowitz was one of the best things I did while deciding to leave clinical pediatrics. His practical suggestions helped me focus on my own desires and skills and take the steps necessary to identify what I wanted to do and how to do it. He encouraged me to talk with people in the fields I was considering and even found me useful contacts in those areas himself.

“I am now an epidemiologist interviewer for the California Department of Health Services and a published writer of fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction, some of which can be viewed at www.jansteckel.com. I am so much happier and healthier

than when I was working for an HMO. Peter’s wonderful combination of good sense, practical coaching skills, sensitivity and caring helped me make the transition to a much more satisfying life.”

Radiologist

“After relocating my family to accept a ‘near-perfect’ job with a radiology group, I found myself increasingly unhappy in a work environment that wasn’t a good fit. I was physically exhausted, psychologically frazzled and emotionally on edge. I felt trapped and without any viable options.

“Thankfully, I discovered Peter Moskowitz, MD and the Center for Professional and Personal Renewal. Peter’s superb communication skills and coaching techniques, coupled with his experiential understanding of the world of medicine, created a highly effective coaching environment. With Dr. Moskowitz’s

guidance, I was able to leave my practice and create opportunities for myself that are in accord with my professional and personal goals.

“I recommend him without reservation to all individuals, especially healthcare professionals, who desire more balanced and fulfilling professional and personal lives.”

Family Practice Physician

“Coaching helped me sort through and clarify some rather vague ideas I had. It was reassuring for me to get validation of my concerns about my present situation, and encouragement that trying something new was a healthy thing to do. Peter helped me discover goals that I didn't know I had. Most of all, Peter gave me confidence in my ability to make a positive change.”

“Three years ago I decided to be what I always desired: a medical broadcaster. I had no experience. Today I am busy in radio, TV, and print. Peter has helped me engineer a plan that allowed me to follow my dream and still keep my feet on the ground as a doctor, parent, and spouse.”

Emergency Room Physician

“I sought the Peter’s help because of progressive burnout in my emergency medicine practice. Through completing a series of mind-opening structured exercises, I was able to develop a better awareness of my life values and goals and to rebalance my priorities. The result was a successful return to my practice with renewed energy and enthusiasm.”

"I can't thank you enough for pushing me down the path to where I am now. When I first contacted you, I was in a deep, dark hole of despair. I was doing what I had "always wanted to do", but it was no longer working for me. Every day I felt as though I was slogging through piles of work just to get up the next day and do it all again. I could not see any way to change my situation for the better.

My work with you helped me to see where all of my hours were being spent, and how I would rather be spending them. Having to be accountable to a career coach forced me to really work through my issues. Your coaching guided me to make my own decisions about what would work for me. You gave me emotional support and validation that I was not less of a doctor because I was choosing to veer from the traditional path. The most helpful quote was, "Would you want your bedroom to still be decorated as it was when you were 18?" I envisioned all of the koala bear posters and shuddered. You continued, "You made your decision to follow this
career path as a teenager. It is completely valid to change your mind now as an adult if the original plan is no longer working."

You asked me to write about the life I would truly like to be living. I wrote, "family time and relationships that carry us through the remainder of our lives. Work life on the backburner, enough money to do the important family things, but not so involved (in work) that it leeches enjoyment and time out of everything else. I wrote that in 2003. I arrived at my goal with two years to spare! Thank you so much!"

Here is what some of the Medical Organization to whom I have spoken have said about my presentations and workshops:

Catholic Healthcare West

“The feedback from ‘Life-Work Path Retreat’ and ‘Understanding the Disruptive Physician’ has been overwhelmingly positive. Comments such as ‘This was the best program I ever attended’ and ‘The program was life-changing’ are both typical and powerful testaments to Peter’s work.

“Peter has the uncanny ability to quickly build rapport with participants, thus making the classroom a very open and honest environment.
Given this environment, it is easy to see why he is able to get the results he does. I also appreciate all the behind-the-scenes work Peter does to make classes a success, and the way he covers all the details to assure that the classes always run very smoothly. Peter definitely staid on top of everything, thus making working with him very easy.

Society for Pediatric Radiology

“Dr Peter Moskowitz has in the past five years contributed substantially to the success of workshop programming at the annual Society for Pediatric Radiology meetings. He has contributed insight into the manpower crisis within our field of pediatric radiology and has taught insightfully on Balancing Work and Life. Most recently at the 2005 Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) meeting in New Orleans, Dr. Moskowitz offered a sought after workshop titled: Utilizing Your Vital Resources: Values-based Time and Money Management.

“As a past workshop coordinator for the SPR, I can say that Peter's workshops have been standing room only and participants leave his sessions with high praise.
I believe that Peter's programs resonate with physicians because he understands their challenges, stresses, strengths, and weaknesses. He speaks from a deep background of experience and does so with tolerance and compassion.

“I am confident that every physician group and organization can benefit from the wisdom Peter has to offer. The question has often been asked, ‘Who helps the helper?’ I believe that Dr. Peter Moskowitz is one of the skilled helpers we are so in need of hearing.”

American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists

“I have had the pleasure of both studying and then working with Dr. Moskowitz on multiple occasions over the past six years. I first met him at an American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,

(ACOG), district meeting where he gave a half day seminar on career and life management for us. His stimulating and engaging approach to dealing with many of the problems physicians face convinced me to invite him to become a regular faculty speaker for a post-graduate course program that we developed for ACOG. As one of my presidential initiatives, our course, Career Transitions, was given many times at the annual clinical meeting of ACOG as well as at several district meetings. We had become convinced that many physicians were having trouble with career challenges and finding satisfaction in life. With the help of Dr. Moskowitz, we put together a very successful course.

“Working with Dr. Moskowitz was always interesting and stimulating. Together with our faculty, we presented a comprehensive review of career and life changes necessary to adapt to the rigors and stresses of practicing medicine in today’s world. Our course was very successful, and Dr. Moskowitz always received top marks on the course evaluation reports. ACOG was pleased with our course and scheduled it to run for several years longer than is standard for post-graduated courses at the annual meeting. Many physicians, as well as my ACOG fellow course faculty members, have enjoyed working with Peter and look forward do doing so in the future.”

“Dr. Peter S. Moskowitz, the keynote speaker of our recent annual Partnership meeting, proved to be both a dynamic and timely speaker, as well as an effective workshop facilitator for our physicians, whether they were in the early, middle, or late stages of their professional careers.

“Dr. Moskowitz provided our physician partners and spouses in attendance, with practical tools and strategies to help them better manage their career and personal lives and to renew themselves for greater personal satisfaction. We look forward to continued long term benefits from his expertise in the future.”
